Q1 NBC Bearings has established itself as a technology-driven bearing manufacturer. Could you share how your R&D ecosystem and global technology collaborations are enabling the development of next-generation bearing solutions for critical sectors such as automotive, railways, aerospace, and heavy industry?
Our R&D ecosystem is the cornerstone of our technology-first identity. We operate India’s largest dedicated bearing R&D center in Jaipur, staffed by over 130 specialized engineers. To compete globally, we’ve expanded our footprint with a Global Technology Centre in Germany, which allows us to co-innovate directly with European OEMs on next-generation EV and industrial solutions. Our acquisition of Kinex Bearings in Slovakia further enriched our portfolio with niche expertise in aerospace and textile bearings. These hubs work in synergy: while Jaipur focuses on core tribology and material science, our European centers lead in application-specific high-end engineering. This global network ensures we are not just manufacturing components but are engineering the high-precision motion solutions required for the rigorous demands of aerospace turbines, high-speed rail, and heavy industrial automation.

Q2 Bearings play a crucial role in improving machine efficiency and reliability. How is NBC leveraging advanced materials, coatings, and lubrication technologies to deliver longer life, lower friction, and improved energy efficiency for customers across industries?
To deliver longer life and higher efficiency, we are pushing the boundaries of material science and surface treatment to handle extreme loads and speeds. Our lubrication strategy has shifted to specialized low-viscosity synthetic lubricants that reduce starting torque and running friction while maintaining load capacity.Furthermore, we utilize advanced surface treatment like Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC), Black Oxide, and other coatings to enhance wear resistance in boundary lubrication conditions as well as various lubrication scenarios. These innovations are critical for applications where equipment operates in inaccessible environments. By minimizing internal friction by up to 30%, we directly contribute to our customers’ energy efficiency goals, ensuring that machines run cooler, longer, and with significantly lower power consumption.

Q3 The transition to electric mobility and alternative powertrains is reshaping component design requirements. How is NBC developing specialized bearings for EVs, high-speed applications, and emerging technologies such as hydrogen mobility?
The shift to EVs has completely redefined bearing requirements, moving from high-load/low-speed to low-load/ultra-high-speed (up to 19,000+ RPM). We anticipated this growth in EV adoption six years ago and developed a dedicated suite of EV bearings. These solutions feature conductive lubricants to prevent electrical erosion (EDM) and specialized plastic cages to reduce centrifugal forces at high speeds. For the emerging hydrogen economy, we are researching specialized materials capable of withstanding the embrittlement risks associated with hydrogen environments. Our focus is on power-dense designs-making bearings smaller and lighter without compromising fatigue life-to maximize the range of electric and fuel-cell vehicles, ensuring NBC remains the preferred partner for the mobility of tomorrow.

Q4 In sectors like railways, aerospace, and construction equipment, reliability and safety are paramount. Could you highlight some of the technological breakthroughs NBC has introduced to address the demanding performance requirements of these industries?

In safety-critical sectors, reliability is non-negotiable. For the Railway sector, we introduced high-capacity Cartridge Tapered Roller Bearings (CTRBs) with integrated sensors that monitor axle temperature and vibration in real-time, preventing catastrophic failures. In Aerospace, we have developed ultra-precisio bearings that meet the stringent AS9100 standards, supporting India’s Aatmanirbhar ambitions in both defense and civil aviation. For Construction equipment, our breakthroughs lie in designs that use multi-lip sealing technology to prevent the ingress of abrasive dust and slurry. These innovations are validated through rigorous simulated testing in our R&D labs, ensuring that whether a bearing is under a high-speed train or a deep-mining drill, its performance remains flawless under the most punishing duty cycles.

Q5 Digitalization is increasingly influencing manufacturing ecosystems. How are connected factories, digital performance management systems, and data-driven decision-making helping NBC optimize production efficiency and ensure consistent product quality?
Digitalization has transformed our shop floor into a transparent, data-rich ecosystem. Through Connected Factories, every operator has access to digital performance management systems that track OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) in real-time. This transparency allows us to identify bottlenecks instantly and optimize production flow. Data-driven decision-making has also revolutionized our supply chain; we use predictive analytics to align our production schedules with global demand fluctuations, reducing lead times for our customers. By digitizing our quality assurance, replacing manual logs with automated sensor data-we provide a digital birth certificate for critical bearings. This level of traceability is essential for our global aerospace and automotive clients, ensuring that every component we ship meets the highest global benchmarks for reliability.

Q6 Today, OEMs and industrial customers are looking beyond components to value-added solutions that improve machine uptime and productivity. How is NBC collaborating with customers to deliver customized bearing solutions and application engineering support?
We have transitioned from a component supplier to a solutions partner. Today’s OEMs don’t just want a bearing; they want guaranteed up time. To support this, NBC offers Condition Monitoring Services (CMS), where we use handheld or remote sensors to monitor the health of our bearings in the customer’s facility.

Our application engineering team works alongside customer R&D teams from the design stage to provide bespoke solutions, such as right bearing selection, customized internal geometries, right material and surface treatment or specialized housing units. This collaborative approach, supported by our Online Bearing Life Calculator and vibration analysis expertise, helps customers optimize their machine design. By providing training and on-site maintenance audits, we ensure that our bearings are installed and maintained correctly, maximizing the return on investment for our industrial partners.

Q7 Sustainability is becoming a major focus for global manufacturing. NBC recently published Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for several bearing products. How do such initiatives support customers in achieving their ESG and carbon reduction goals?
At NBC, sustainability is a core business value, not just a compliance task. We are the first Indian bearing manufacturer to publish Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our key product lines. These EPDs provide a transparent, third party-verified map of a bearings’ carbon footprint-from raw material extraction to end-of-life. This initiative is vital for our global customers who are tracking Scope 3 emissions. By choosing NBC’s EPD-certified bearings, OEMs can accurately calculate and report their own environmental impact. Internally, we’ve reduced water consumption by 40% at our Jaipur plant and have achieved IGBC Platinum certification for our Savli facility. Our focus on low-friction designs and recyclable packaging further ensures that we are enabling a circular economy while helping our customers meet their aggressive ESG targets.

Q8 NBC has made significant investments in aerospace and high-precision bearing technologies. What opportunities do you see in this segment, and how is the company positioning itself to support India’s ambitions in aviation and space technologies?
The aerospace and defense sector represents a significant growth frontier for NBC. With India’s growing role in global aviation supply chains and the expanding space program (ISRO), the demand for high precision, Made in India bearings are at an all-time high. We have invested heavily in specialized heat treatment and micro-level grinding technologies required for aircraft engines and landing gears.

Our acquisition of Kinex has given us a strategic foothold in the European aerospace market, which we are leveraging to bring global best practices to our Indian operations. We are positioning ourselves not just as a domestic leader but as a competitive global alternative for high-precision components, supporting the vision of India as a global aerospace manufacturing hub.

Q9 Across industries such as steel, mining, cement, and heavy engineering, equipment operates in extremely harsh environments. How does NBC design bearings to ensure durability, reduced maintenance, and enhanced operational efficiency under such conditions?
For the steel, mining, and cement industries, the environment is the enemy. Dust, heat, and shock loads are constant. NBC addresses these through Design principles. We use case-carburized steels for our heavy-duty rollers to provide a hard, wear-resistant surface with a tough, ductile core that can absorb heavy shocks without cracking. Our bearings for rotary kilns and vertical mills feature specialized internal clearances and Sealed-for-Life units that use high- temperature greases and labyrinth seals to keep contaminants out. By conducting regular Lubrication Audits for our industrial customers, we help them select the right grease and relubrication intervals, significantly reducing maintenance costs and ensuring that their massive capital equipment operates at peak efficiency even in the grittiest conditions.

Q10 Light weighting and energy efficiency are becoming critical design priorities for OEMs. Could you explain how NBC’s innovations in compact and low-friction bearing designs are helping customers improve fuel efficiency and reduce energy consumption?
Light weighting is a critical lever for both ICE fuel efficiency and EV range extension. At NBC, we are achieving this through Material selection and optimization using advanced simulation software to optimize geometry based on application need. We have pioneered the use of non-metallic polyamide cages, which are significantly lighter than traditional steel cages, reducing the bearings’ overall mass and internal centrifugal forces. For automotive OEMs, saving even a few grams per bearing, multiplied across a vehicle’s drivetrain, leads to substantial improvements in CO2 emissions. Our compact, low-friction designs allow for smaller housing and right lubricants amount, helping our customers design the next generation of energy-efficient vehicles without sacrificing mechanical robustness.

Q11 Looking ahead, what are the key technological trends shaping the global bearings industry, and how is NBC preparing to remain at the forefront of innovation while enhancing productivity and competitiveness for its customers worldwide?
Looking ahead, the global bearing industry will be defined by Sustainability, Digitalization, and Electrification. We are preparing for this by investing in Smart Bearings with embedded microsensors that can communicate directly with a machine’s control system. We are also exploring Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) for rapid prototyping and creating complex geometries that traditional forging cannot achieve. Our goal is to remain at the forefront by fostering an agile, value-based culture that embraces change. By continuing to expand our global footprint and focusing on circular manufacturing, NBC is not just keeping pace with global trends-we are setting the benchmark for how a traditional engineering company can lead the digital and green industrial revolution.
